Iglu-DorfWhat does an igloo village look like and how big is it?
All igloo villages have a similar layout and yet each location is unique. Inside the igloo village, a corridor system that provides shelter from the elements connects the igloos. The main corridors are more than 2 m high. The size of the igloos varies: there are larger social igloos and smaller overnight igloos (about 4 meters in diameter).

How is the igloo village built and is it stable?
Year in, year out we build every igloo village from scratch in about 3,000 working hours with the help of large balloons, snow ploughs and a lot of muscle power. An igloo village simply cannot collapse in winter! Due to the special construction method it is extremely stable. During the winter, the snow becomes so hard that a snow groomer could drive over it without anything happening.

All our igloo villages are beautiful and unique.
Their structure and amenities are almost identical. They differ with regard to the artistic theme and, of course, the location itself.
How is the igloo village illuminated?
There is (LED) light in all of the igloos and corridors. The light always remains on in public spaces. In the sleeping igloos, the light can be switched on/off by the guests.
How does the airflow work?
Snow itself has a high air content and is air-permeable to a small extent. The sleeping berths are elevated, which means the nitrogen sinks to the lower-lying areas. The multiple exits allow the air to circulate. The rooms are very high and filled with plenty of oxygen. We only use candles in the public areas.
What are the temperatures in the igloo?
The temperature in the igloo is relatively constant, between -2 und +2°C. Please dress accordingly throughout your stay. You will not be cold if you wear the right clothes in combination with our programme that includes hot food, exercise and use of the hot tub/sauna as well as hot tea and fleece blankets.
How do you cook?
Our kitchen igloos are also made of snow. Here we prepare your food under the specified hygiene standards. Cooking is done on gas stoves or by induction. The dishes are washed in the nearby mountain restaurant.
Is there electricity?
We have electricity in the igloo. There is a USB socket in every sleeping igloo.
Does the Iglu-Dorf Stockhorn no longer exist?
For eight years, Igloo Village GmbH has built a unique igloo village every winter on the frozen Hinterstockensee lake in the Bernese Oberland - the first two years for overnight guests, then as an igloo bar with fondue evenings and as a popular event location in the middle of nature. In the meantime, the igloo is very well positioned on the market with its attractions such as snowshoeing, ice skating and ice fishing.
In the future, the igloo facility will be managed by the Stockhornbahn AG in Erlenbach.

You can pay for food and beverages consumed on site in cash (CHF/EURO), and by card (Visa, Mastercard, Maestro) at the locations in Gstaad, Davos, Kühtai and Zermatt.

ArrivalHow does the arrival work?
Day guests can reach the igloo village on their own. All locations are situated along the ski slopes and/or winter hiking trails. The footpath leads on snow up or down the mountain. The distance on foot depends on the location. Gstaad or the Zugspitze have the shortest route (5-7 minutes), and the walk to Zermatt or Davos takes around 20 minutes and is the longest and steepest route. Please note that we do not provide personal transport to and from the igloo.
Hotel guests are NEVER allowed to walk to the igloo village alone. You must be at the specified mountain restaurant at the specified time. The specified time is geared towards the cableway timetable. Allow plenty of time for your arrival. If for some reason you cannot be at the meeting point on time, please contact the booking office immediately: +41 41 612 27 28.
IMPORTANT: You can reach all locations (except Kühtai) via the cableway. After the last daily cable car departure, you will no longer be able to travel. Plan plenty of time for your arrival.

How do the whirlpool and sauna work?
The sauna and whirlpool are open in the evening for our overnight guests. The guests of the Romantic Igloo Suite have their own exclusive whirlpool. There is a hot tub at all locations except in Kühtai. There is a mixed sauna everywhere except Zermatt. Guests need to supply their own bath towel and flip-flops.
Can you get to the igloo village in a wheelchair or if you have limited mobility?
The route to the igloo village is on a snowy path up or down the ski slope and is therefore not suitable for people in wheelchairs or with limited mobility. Please note that we do not provide personal transport to and from the Igloo Village.
Is there a luggage storage?
If the day bar is open, luggage can be left at the bar. Just speak to one of our employees.

We recommend overnight stays in the Iglu-Dorf for healthy people and children aged 6 and above. If you would still like to visit the Iglu-Dorf with children under the age of 6, we recommend the Iglu-Dorf Gstaad, which is located below 2,000 meters above sea level. We do not offer any facilities for small children, such as changing tables or highchairs. It’s very important that you are aware of the remote location of the Iglu-Dorf sites. Can I stay overnight at the Iglu-Dorf during pregnancy?
Staying overnight at the Iglu-Dorf during pregnancy is possible in principle. However, we advise you to choose a lower location such as Gstaad or Innsbruck Kühtai for your overnight stay.

Is the snowshoe trek/night walk difficult?
At the Swiss locations and in Austria we go on snowshoe treks, and on the Zugspitze we do a hike.
Both are doable for all overnight guests. Depending on the location, there are tours of varying lengths, which are geared towards the level of the whole group of guests. There is no obligation for guests to take part in the snowshoe treks.
What is there to eat and drink?
In the igloo restaurant you will find a wide selection of warm and cold, alcoholic and soft beverages. For dinner we offer our igloo-own fondue with local mountain cheese, alternatively other small snacks.
For our hotel guests, the standard offer included in the price includes the following services:
- Welcome drink and aperitif tray
- All-you-can-eat fondue with regional mountain cheese
- Morning tea served to you in your sleeping bag
- Breakfast buffet in the mountain restaurant
The cheese fondue is lactose-free and contains less than 0.1% alcohol. In case of an intolerance, we can offer pasta with tomato sauce as an alternative. This must already be indicated with the booking.
Other drinks and snacks from the menu can be ordered from our guides. These are charged at the end of the evening depending on consumption.
What is the difference between Family & Friends and a Romantic Igloo?
The main difference is the number of people they accommodate.
The Family & Friends Igloo can accommodate up to six people and there is a basic rate of CHF 627.- / EUR 507.-, which includes three adults. Each additional person will be charged according to the rate on the price list.
The Romantic Igloo offers space for two people. In addition, snow art is guaranteed on the walls of the Romantic Igloo.
And what about the evening programme?
This varies at each location. The program essentially includes:

What do you sleep on?
We build sleeping berths using snow and palettes. Thermal mats or thin foam mats are laid on top of these. In the Romantic Igloos, real sheepskins are laid on top. In all igloo categories, our expedition sleeping bags filled with synthetic fibres (for temperatures down to -40°C) and a hygienic sleeping bag liner are available for each guest. You do not need to bring your own sleeping bag. If you need a pillow, please bring one. There are no pillows in the igloo.
What clothes should I wear and what else do I have to bring?
The igloo village is in a remote location on the mountain. Make sure that you bring the appropriate gear. The temperature in the igloo village is generally constant, around freezing point.
Recommended clothing and equipment:
- Warm clothing suitable for winter (like for skiing)
- Comfortable, warm winter shoes (e.g. snowboard boots)
- Good gloves
- Dry socks, long underwear to change into, pyjamas if necessary
- Two hats (second hat as a spare in case the first gets wet in the hot tub)
- Bath towel, swimwear and flip-flops for hot tub/sauna if necessary
- A flashlight or headlamp
- Toothbrush (brushing teeth is possible)
- Cash (debit and credit cards not taken on the Zugspitze)
- Sunglasses and sunscreen (for arrival and departure)
A backpack is the ideal piece of luggage for your night in the igloo village.
Do not bring:
- Expedition sleeping bag and sleeping bag liner
- Suitcase (unsuitable)
Points of contact during your stay
Our igloo guides are there for you throughout the entire igloo experience, from the meeting point through the night to breakfast. Your satisfaction and safety are our top priority. We also try to allocate our guides so that our guests can be looked after in their native language (German/English/French).
What happens if the weather is bad?
We facilitate overnight stays in almost any weather. Exceptions are extreme storms or extreme lack of snow to build the igloo. If an overnight stay is not possible, we will inform you as soon as possible.
24. Can I book an igloo just for 4 people?
This is possible with a Family & Friends Igloo or in a Romantic Igloo Plus with 2 adults and 2 children.
Can I stay in the igloo for more than one night?
We recommend that our guests spend only 1 night in the igloo, as we have neither warm rooms nor running water or showers. The programme and the catering are also the same every day.
Can you stay overnight in the igloo village as a single person?
If you like, you can stay on your own. The Romantic Igloo for the price of 2 people is suitable for this purpose.

KidsCan I bring my children to the Iglu-Dorf?
You are welcome to bring your children with you to the Iglu-Dorf. However, we only recommend that children aged 6 and over spend the night in an igloo. If you would still like to sleep at the Iglu-Dorf with children under the age of 6, we recommend the Iglu-Dorf in Gstaad, located below 2,000 meters above sea level, or the Iglu-Dorf Innsbruck Kühtai. The latter is located in the Austrian village of Kühtai, is easily accessible and can be reached directly by public transport or car. The Iglu-Dorf Innsbruck Kühtai also offers heated sanitary facilities. Please note that we do not offer special facilities for small children (such as highchairs or changing tables) and do not have childcare. We ask you to bring everything you need for your children yourself.
All other igloo villages are located in remote, high alpine mountains and the temperatures are around freezing point. Please read our safety instructions.

AnimalsAre animals allowed in the igloo?
During the day, dogs are allowed in the igloo restaurant (except on the Zugspitze). However, no traces of urine or faeces may be left behind in the igloo.
Dogs are allowed on request for overnight stays in the Romantic Igloo, Romantic Igloo Plus, and Family & Friends Igloo in Gstaad, Zermatt and Kühtai. We charge CHF 25/ EUR 20 per dog.
Please note the following:
- If your dog doesn’t feel comfortable in the cold, a night in an igloo is not the way to go.
- You should tell us you intend to bring a dog at the time of reservation.
- You have to bring food, bowl and enough dog poop bags.
- There must be no traces of urine or faeces in the igloo.
- Dogs are not allowed to sleep on the bed or in a sleeping bag. You have to bring your own blanket or sleeping bag.
- Dogs cannot be tethered or locked in the igloo.
- Be aware that you cannot enter the whirlpool/sauna unless someone is watching the dog.
- The dog must be kept on a leash in the igloo and a muzzle must be brought along. If another guest is afraid, you have to muzzle your dog.
- During the snowshoe trek the dog must walk on a leash as we pass game reserves. This also for your dog’s safety in case snow groomers are out at that time.

SafetyHow safe is it in the igloo?
Your safety is our top priority. The igloo is regularly checked for its stability and reinforced. Our guides always on site and are specially trained. Each site has a safety, hygiene and emergency plan. We have a first aid kit and a defibrillator (Davos, Gstaad and Zermatt) on site.
We’re not allowed to dispense medication. If necessary, you must bring this yourself.
In the event of adverse circumstances, no transport (helicopter, cable car/mountain railway) may be possible even in emergencies (as in all other remote mountain locations).

HygieneHow are the sanitary facilities equipped?
We have public toilets in the igloo village. In the Romantic Igloo Plus and the Romantic Igloo Suite, private toilets are available for the guests. In the toilet facilities you can brush your teeth and clean your hands with liquid hand sanitiser. Running water is only available in Kühtai (warm) and in Zermatt (cold). There are no showers in the Igloo Villages.
What are the hygiene standards like?
Each guest is provided with a sleeping bag liner made from cotton (Romantic Igloo guests are provided with a double cotton sleeping bag). This is because, while the expedition sleeping bags are aired and disinfected every day, they are not washed.
We comply with the prescribed hygiene standards of the hotel and catering industry and implement feedback in accordance with the annual inspections of the cantonal food authorities.
The whirlpools are cleaned daily and the water is replaced regularly. The water also has plenty of time to recover, because only our overnight guests use the hot tub.
Wet wipes/disinfectant spray are available in the toilet.
