Iglu-DorfWhat does an igloo village look like and how big is it?
All igloo villages have a similar layout and yet each location is unique. Inside the Iglu-Dorf, a corridor system that provides shelter from wind and weather connects igloo to igloo. The main corridors are more than 2 m high. The size of the igloos varies: there are larger common igloos and smaller overnight igloos (about 4 meters in diameter). The exception is the Innsbruck Kühtai location, where the igloos are located next to each other and each has its own entrance.

How is the igloo village built and is it stable?
Year in, year out we build every igloo village from scratch in about 3,000 working hours with the help of large balloons, snow ploughs and a lot of muscle power. An igloo village simply cannot collapse in winter! Due to the special construction method it is extremely stable. During the winter, the snow becomes so hard that a snow groomer could drive over it without anything happening.

All our igloo villages are beautiful and unique.
Their structure and amenities are almost identical. The main differences lie in the wellness offering (Swiss locations with kota, hot tub & sauna, Innsbruck Kühtai and Zugspitze with sauna only), the night walk (all locations except Zugspitze with snowshoes) and accessibility (all locations except Innsbruck Kühtai via cableway). The artistic themes and the location itself also differ.
How is the igloo village illuminated?
There is (LED) light in all of the igloos and corridors. The light always remains on in public spaces. In the sleeping igloos, the light can be switched on/off by the guests.
How does the airflow work?
Snow itself has a high air content and is air-permeable to a small extent. The sleeping berths are elevated, which means the nitrogen sinks to the lower-lying areas. The multiple exits allow the air to circulate. The rooms are very high and filled with plenty of oxygen. We only use candles in the public areas.
What are the temperatures in the igloo?
The temperature in the igloo is relatively constant, between -2 and +2 degrees. Please dress accordingly for your stay. With the right clothing, as part of our programme with hot food, exercise and use of the whirlpool and/or sauna (depending on location) as well as fleece blankets on request, no one should feel cold.
What happens if the overnight stay is cancelled?
If we have to cancel the overnight stay, we will inform you as soon as possible so that we can offer you another location or another date. If this is not possible, we will issue you a voucher or make a refund via the respective payment method.
How do you cook?
Our kitchen igloos are also made of snow. Here we prepare your food under the specified hygiene standards. Cooking is done on gas stoves or by induction. The dishes are washed in the nearby mountain restaurant.
Is there electricity?
We have electricity in the igloo. There is a USB socket in every sleeping igloo.

You can make a reservation online, by email or by telephone. As our season is short and the number of igloos limited, we recommend booking as early as possible. We are always quickly booked out, especially on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays and during the holiday season.

All overnight bookings are paid for in advance. You will receive an invoice with your reservation (by email or letter mail ) or can pay online by credit card (VISA, Mastercard), voucher, and in Switzerland by PostCard.
You can pay for food and beverages consumed on site in cash (CHF/EURO), and by card (Visa, Mastercard, Maestro) at the locations in Gstaad, Davos, Kühtai and Zermatt.

ArrivalHow does the arrival work?
Day guests can reach the Iglu-Dorf on their own; it is situated at all locations along the ski slopes and/or winter hiking trails. The footpath leads on snow-covered paths up or down the mountain. The duration of the walk depends on the location. Gstaad and the Zugspitze have the shortest route at 5-7 minutes, while Zermatt and Davos have the longest and steepest route at around 20 minutes. Please note that we do not provide personal transport to and from the cableway.
Hotel guests, except in Gstaad and Innsbruck Kühtai, are NEVER allowed to walk to the Iglu-Dorf alone. You must be at the specified meeting point at the specified time. The time is geared towards the cableway timetable. Allow plenty of time for your arrival. If for some reason you cannot be at the meeting point on time, please contact the booking office immediately: +41 41 612 27 28.
IMPORTANT: At all locations (except Kühtai) you can ONLY reach the meeting point via the cableway. After the cableway stops running, it is no longer possible to travel to the igloo.

How do the whirlpool and sauna work?
Sauna and whirlpool (depending on location) are reserved for our overnight guests to use in the evening. There is a mixed sauna at all locations. There is a hot tub ONLY at the Swiss locations of Davos Klosters, Gstaad and Zermatt. At Innsbruck Kühtai and Zugspitze there is no hot tub.
For evening use, we create a usage schedule together with all guests upon arrival so that each igloo gets a private time slot. Bath towel and flip-flops must be brought yourself. Guests of the Igloo or Panorama Suite have their own whirlpool for exclusive use, including bathrobe.
Can you get to the igloo village in a wheelchair or if you have limited mobility?
The route to the Iglu-Dorf leads along a winter hiking trail on snow, down or up, and is therefore not suitable for people with impaired mobility or in a wheelchair. Please also note that we do not have any means of personal transport to and from the Iglu-Dorf.
Is there a luggage storage?
If the day bar is open, luggage can be left at the bar. Just speak to one of our employees.

Overnight stayWho can spend the night in the Iglu-Dorf (age)?
We recommend an overnight stay in the Iglu-Dorf for healthy people and children aged 6 and above. If you would still like to visit the Iglu-Dorf with children under 6, we recommend the lower-lying Iglu-Dorf villages of Gstaad or Innsbruck Kühtai. We do not offer any facilities for small children, such as changing tables or highchairs.
It is very important that you are aware of the remote location & altitude of the Iglu-Dorf sites. Please read our safety instructions.
Can I stay overnight at the Iglu-Dorf during pregnancy?
Staying overnight at the Iglu-Dorf during pregnancy is possible in principle. However, we advise you to choose a lower-lying location such as Gstaad or Innsbruck Kühtai for your overnight stay.

Is the snowshoe trek/night walk difficult?
At the Swiss locations and at Innsbruck Kühtai we go on snowshoe treks; at Iglu-Dorf Zugspitze we do a simple walk.
The tours are manageable for every overnight guest. Depending on the location, there are tours of varying length, geared to the level of the whole group of guests. Participation in the (snowshoe) tours is voluntary for every guest.
What is there to eat and drink?
In the igloo restaurant you will find a selection of cold and warm, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. For food we offer our own igloo fondue with Swiss mountain cheese, or other small snacks depending on the location.
For our hotel guests, the standard offer included in the price always includes the following catering:
- Welcome drink and aperitif tray
- All-you-can-eat fondue with Swiss mountain cheese
- Morning tea served to your sleeping bag
- Breakfast
The cheese fondue is lactose-free and contains less than 0.1% alcohol. In case of intolerance, we can offer simple alternatives on request: (Davos: vegetable stew, Gstaad & Zermatt: pasta with tomato sauce, Innsbruck Kühtai: pasta with tomato sauce or various Flammkuchen, and Zugspitze: pasta with tomato sauce or goulash soup with bread.) This must already be indicated with the booking.
Further drinks can be ordered on site. These are charged at the end of the evening according to consumption.
What is the difference between igloo categories?
The difference between the Family & Friends Igloo and the Romantic Igloo lies in the number of people they accommodate.
Depending on the location, the Family & Friends Igloo accommodates a maximum of 4 to 6 people and there is a basic rate of CHF 627.- / EUR 537.-, which includes three adults. Each additional person is charged separately.
The Family & Friends Igloo Plus accommodates a maximum of 4 people. The Romantic Igloo Plus accommodates 2 people.
The difference between the Plus categories (Family & Friends Plus and Romantic Igloo Plus) and the cheaper categories (Family & Friends Igloo and Romantic Igloo) is the toilet. In the Plus igloos, you have a private toilet (dry toilet) in a small, second, connected igloo; in the other categories, you use the shared toilets (dry toilets) in the centre of the Iglu-Dorf.
The Igloo Suite accommodates a maximum of 2 people and has a private toilet (dry toilet) and a private whirlpool.
And what about the evening programme?
This varies at each location. The programme essentially includes:
- Defined meeting point, welcome and instructions
- Welcome drink and aperitif tray
- Igloo tour
- All-you-can-eat Swiss cheese fondue
- Use of public whirlpool and/or sauna (depending on location)
- Night walk or snowshoeing (depending on location)
- Overnight stay in the igloo
- Sleeping bag liner and expedition sleeping bag provided
- Morning tea served to your sleeping bag
- Breakfast
- Comprehensive service from our igloo guides
What do you sleep on?
We build the sleeping surfaces from snow and a special substructure. Thermal mats and then thin mattresses are placed on top. On top of that there are also (real) sheepskins. In all igloo categories, our expedition sleeping bags filled with down or synthetic fibres, a matching sleeping bag liner, and a small pillow are available for each guest. You do not need to bring your own sleeping bag.
What clothes should I wear and what else do I have to bring?
The igloo village is in a remote location on the mountain. Make sure that you bring the appropriate gear. The temperature in the igloo village is generally constant, around freezing point.
Recommended clothing and equipment:
- Warm clothing suitable for winter (like for skiing)
- Comfortable, warm winter shoes (e.g. snowboard boots)
- Good gloves
- Dry socks, long underwear to change into, pyjamas if necessary
- Two hats (second hat as a spare in case the first gets wet in the hot tub)
- Bath towel, swimwear and flip-flops for hot tub/sauna if necessary
- A flashlight or headlamp
- Toothbrush (brushing teeth is possible)
- Cash (debit and credit cards not taken on the Zugspitze)
- Sunglasses and sunscreen (for arrival and departure)
A backpack is the ideal piece of luggage for your night in the igloo village.
Do not bring:
- Expedition sleeping bag and sleeping bag liner
- Suitcase (unsuitable)
Points of contact during your stay
Our igloo guides are there for you throughout the entire igloo experience, from the meeting point through the night to breakfast. Your satisfaction and safety are our top priority. We also try to allocate our guides so that our guests can be looked after in their native language (German/English/French).
What happens if the weather is bad?
We facilitate overnight stays in almost any weather. Exceptions are extreme storms or extreme lack of snow to build the igloo. If an overnight stay is not possible, we will inform you as soon as possible.
24. Can I book an igloo just for 4 people?
This is possible with a Family & Friends Igloo or a Family & Friends Igloo Plus.
Can I stay in the igloo for more than one night?
We recommend that our guests spend only 1 night in the igloo, as we have neither warm rooms nor running water or showers. The programme and the catering are also the same every day.
Can you stay overnight in the igloo village as a single person?
If you like, you can stay on your own. The Romantic Igloo for the price of 2 people is suitable for this purpose.

What can you do in the Iglu-Dorf during the day?
Our bar and restaurant warmly welcome you during the day. Enjoy a Swiss cheese fondue with us or a drink at the snow bar.
In addition, the following activities can be booked during the day and in advance: snowshoeing, and as a group activity classic igloo building, snow sculpture carving & Arctic Winter Games. At Iglu-Dorf Gstaad you also have the option of booking the Mystery Igloo.

You can build your own igloo with a guide in Gstaad and spend the night there. We also offer daytime igloo-building courses at all locations without an overnight stay.

VoucherVouchers
You can buy and redeem vouchers online, by email or by phone. You can have your voucher credited for other room categories or at other locations. An upgrade to a Friday or Saturday is possible for an additional charge, depending on the voucher. A surcharge may apply in the event of price changes. Vouchers already issued may not be returned/refunded. The validity of three years will be extended up to five years upon request. The Iglu-Dorf vouchers are not exclusive to one person and can be given to others.

KidsCan I bring my children to the Iglu-Dorf?
You are welcome to bring your children to the Iglu-Dorf. However, we only recommend an overnight stay in the Iglu-Dorf for children aged 6 and above. If you would still like to visit the Iglu-Dorf with children under 6, we recommend the Iglu-Dorf Gstaad, located below 2,000 m above sea level, or the Iglu-Dorf Innsbruck Kühtai. The latter is located in the Austrian village of Kühtai, is easily accessible and can be reached directly by public transport or car. The Iglu-Dorf Innsbruck Kühtai also offers heated sanitary facilities. Please note that we do not have special facilities for small children (such as highchairs or changing tables) and do not offer childcare. We ask that you bring everything you need for your children yourself
Please note: All other igloo villages are located in remote, high alpine mountains and temperatures are around freezing point. Please read our safety instructions.

AnimalsAre animals allowed in the igloo?
During the day, dogs are allowed in the igloo restaurant at the Swiss locations and at Iglu-Dorf Innsbruck Kühtai. However, no traces of urine or faeces may be left in the igloo. Dogs are not allowed at the Zugspitze location.
For an overnight stay in Davos, Gstaad, Zermatt and Kühtai, dogs are allowed on request. We charge CHF 25.-/ EUR 20.- per dog.
Please note the following:
- If your dog does not feel comfortable in the cold, a night in the igloo is not the right choice.
- A corresponding note must be made at the time of reservation.
- You must bring your own food, bowl and enough dog waste bags.
- There must be no traces of urine or faeces in the igloo.
- Dogs are not allowed to sleep on the bed or in a sleeping bag. You must bring your own blanket or sleeping bag for the dog.
- There is no way to tie up or lock in the dog in the igloo.
- Please be aware that you cannot use the whirlpool/sauna unless someone is watching the dog.
- The dog must stay on a leash in the igloo and a muzzle must be brought along. If another guest is afraid, you must put the muzzle on your dog.
- During the snowshoe trek, the dog must be kept on a leash, as we pass game reserves. This is also for your dog's safety in case snow groomers are out at that time.

SafetyHow safe is it in the igloo?
Your safety is our top priority. The igloo is regularly checked for its stability and reinforced. Our guides always on site and are specially trained. Each site has a safety, hygiene and emergency plan. We have a first aid kit and a defibrillator (Davos, Gstaad and Zermatt) on site.
We’re not allowed to dispense medication. If necessary, you must bring this yourself.
In the event of adverse circumstances, no transport (helicopter, cable car/mountain railway) may be possible even in emergencies (as in all other remote mountain locations).
After the reservation we will send you the travel information, including mandatory safety instructions. Please adhere to them.

HygieneHow are the sanitary facilities equipped?
We have public toilets in all igloo villages. At the Swiss locations and on the Zugspitze these are dry toilets. At Innsbruck Kühtai we use the sanitary facilities of the neighbouring sports field.
In the Plus categories and in the suites, guests each have private toilets (dry toilets) available. In the toilet facilities you can brush your teeth and clean your hands with liquid hand sanitiser. Running water and showers are available in Gstaad, Kühtai and Zermatt.
What are the hygiene standards like?
Each guest is provided with a sleeping bag liner made from cotton (Romantic Igloo guests are provided with a double cotton sleeping bag). This is because, while the expedition sleeping bags are aired and disinfected every day, they are not washed.
We comply with the prescribed hygiene standards of the hotel and catering industry and implement feedback in accordance with the annual inspections of the cantonal food authorities.
The whirlpools are cleaned daily and the water is replaced regularly. The water also has plenty of time to recover, because only our overnight guests use the hot tub.
Wet wipes/disinfectant spray are available in the toilet.
